This interest in design began with paper artwork in my first school which developed over time, not only with sculpted pieces for art but also into items that had a purpose. Design was introduced to me in the form of a wooden cam system in school that we had to build, and as the years progressed and the leash grew longer I enjoyed exploring different methods to fixing a problem, such as a simple way to build a tree house.
This then expanded into more complicated areas such as a wooden MP3 player, camera slides and jigs, an oak table, a faceted electric guitar and many other designs as well as a world more of sketches and rigs. I felt that over the last few years of my education (from 15 years old) I must have spent at least 2/3 of my day in the work shop tinkering on projects. Not all of my little tinkering was master pieces but they were each pieces that were either left with the school or given away.
I was also a member of the team that was put forward for a printing competition in which we were to design and build a 3D product within 24 hours.
I always felt that design can be pushed further and my views on such things as virtual gaming are close to being a reality between oculus headsets, infinity floors and gloves for complete dexterity.
My style of design
I found that my style of design to vary on the project that i work on at the moment, although I have always been a fan of Philippe Starck mainly for his view on how design comes from the form taking priority as oppose to its function. Although i do fell this needs to be taken with a pinch of salt as although he was able to get away with the poorly designed Juicy Salif but more like that of the redesigned version known as ‘mysqueeze’ by designer Roland Kreiter.
